The Magic of Monolaurin

What is Monolaurin?

We do our best here at Paleo Skincare to keep our ingredients simple and our products pure. We pride ourselves on being able to provide our customers with skincare solutions that are safe enough to eat. In terms of safety and efficacy, the monolaurin that we include in all of our treatment creams and moisturizers is no different than the star ingredient of many of our products, grass-fed beef tallow.

The word may sound a bit foreign at first, but chances are that you have already made friends with monolaurin in your early life, and you didn’t even know it. It is a naturally occurring, simple fatty acid that is present in human breast milk; its purpose in this context is to boost babies’ immune systems. It is an important component of lauric acid, which you may recall is a very necessary part of your skin’s own natural sebum, no matter your age. The monolaurin we use in our products is derived from an equally natural, more readily available source than either of these. We use freshly pressed coconut oil.

Why do we love it so much?

In 2007, a study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology stated that monolaurin helps to protect children from a variety of skin conditions that are caused by bacteria. It also is an effective deterrent to staph infections, according to the June 2013 issue of the Journal of Medicinal Food. Monolaurin has repetitively been clinically proven to stop and to prevent the growth of micro-organisms such as fungi, molds, viruses, and most bad bacteria. Actually, monolaurin is just as effective as 70% isopropyl alcohol at killing these micro-organisms. Yet, it moisturizes your skin instead of damaging it and drying it out!

These properties make monolaurin the perfect solution to ‘angry’ or infected skin. If you suffer from eczema, psoriasis, or other skin conditions it can serve as a functional and safe alternative treatment so that you can ditch all of the topical immunomodulators, immunosuppressant drugs, antibiotics, and steroid creams that likely weren’t working so well in the first place.

Paleo Skincare products that include this miraculous ingredient can assist in preventing further damage and/or infection to your already suffering, sensitive skin and pores. They also work double-time by providing pure moisture, and preventing painful cracking and peeling of the skin. Try our Pure Light Tallow Moisturizer with Monolaurin if you have eczema or psoriasis, or are just suffering from very dry skin.

Pure Tallow Moisturiser with Monolaurin is perfect for those with extra angry, dry and irritated skins who don’t want to use harsher chemical creams.

Happy healing.
